How the IB Diploma score is calculated
Each of your six subjects is graded from 1 to 7, which gives a maximum of 42 points. Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE) can add up to 3 more core points, so the highest possible Diploma score is 45. Higher Level and Standard Level subjects are worth the same number of points.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum score to pass the IB Diploma?
You need at least 24 points out of 45, but 24 points alone does not guarantee the Diploma. You must also complete CAS and meet the other award conditions, such as the minimum points at Higher Level and Standard Level.
How many points can TOK and the Extended Essay add?
Together they can add up to 3 core points. Each is graded A to E and the two grades are combined using the core points matrix. An E in either one is a failing condition.
Do Higher Level subjects count for more points than Standard Level?
No. Both levels use the same 1 to 7 scale, so a 6 at HL and a 6 at SL each add 6 points to your total. HL courses cover more content, but the points are the same.
Can I get the Diploma with 24 points?
Only if you also meet every other condition: no grade 1, no more than two grade 2s, no more than three grades of 3 or below, at least 12 points in HL subjects, at least 9 points in SL subjects, and no E in TOK or the Extended Essay.
