What are UCAS points?
UCAS Tariff points give each post-16 qualification and grade a number, so universities can compare applicants who have taken different qualifications. Your total is the sum of the points for each qualification you add.

Frequently asked questions
How many UCAS points is an A*?
An A* at A Level is worth 56 UCAS Tariff points. An A is worth 48, a B is 40, a C is 32, a D is 24 and an E is 16.
Do all UK universities use UCAS points?
No. Many courses make offers in grades, such as AAB, rather than in Tariff points. Some universities use points, and some count only your best three A Levels. Always read the entry requirements for your course.
Is the EPQ included in UCAS points?
The Extended Project Qualification has its own Tariff points, worth half an A Level on the scale, but whether a university counts them depends on the course and the university.
Do AS Level points add to my A Level points?
Not for the same subject. If you take an AS Level and then continue to the full A Level in that subject, only the A Level points count. AS points are useful when the AS is a stand-alone qualification.
Can Sri Lankan students use UCAS points?
Yes. Students who sit Cambridge or Edexcel A Levels in Sri Lanka apply to UK universities through UCAS in the same way as other international applicants, and the same Tariff points apply.
